All workshops are one hour in length.
Set Dancing Workshop: Saturday at 1:00 at the Celtic Fair
Set dancing is a type of social dance that has been popular in Ireland for
more than 150 years, and is related to American square dancing. This
workshop taught by Ed Yother will be a beginner's introduction to the basics of set
dancing as we work our way through dancing the South Galway Set. Check with the admission gate or the Festival headquarters table in the pavilion for the workshop location. The workshop is free of charge.
Singing Workshop: Saturday at 2:00 in the Celtic Fair Workshop Tent. Irish singer Pat Egan, from Tipperary, will coach beginning as well as experienced singers in some of the fine points of singing Irish songs. $25 advance registration at the Irish Festival table in the pavilion.
Fiddle Workshop: Saturday at 3:00 in the Celtic Fair Workshop Tent. Alex Caton will share her knowledge of Irish, Appalachian, and other fiddle styles with intermediate to advanced fiddle players. $25 advance registration at the Irish Festival table in the pavilion.
Guitar Accompaniment Workshop: Saturday at 4:00 in the Celtic Fair Workshop Tent. Irish singer and guitarist Pat Egan will teach experienced guitar players aspects of the art of accompanying traditional dance tunes and vocals. $25 advance registration at the Irish Festival table in the pavilion.
Banjo Workshop: Saturday at 5:00 in the Celtic Fair Workshop Tent. Virginia-based banjo player Alex Caton will offer instruction in playing old-time American and traditional Irish tunes on whatever type of banjo you bring with you. $25 advance registration at the Irish Festival table in the pavilion
